Vitamin C has long been know to be an effective antioxidant and important in the formation of skin collagen, however, studies have shown that the only effective form for use in skin care products is L-ascorbate. This ingredient is notoriously unstable, however, the addition of ferulic acid, a natural plant-derived extract, has een shown to stabilize L-ascorbate without lowering its efficacy and also adds a mild skin lightening effect. Prevage M.D. contains 1% idebenone in a lightly moisturizing serum. Prevage M.D. with Idebenone has been demonstated to be a potent antioxidant in human and laboratory studies. Plain Prevage, available in department stores, contains only 0.5% idebenone. Idebenone also has mild skin lightening effects, is a mild anti-inflammatory, and slows down the breakdown of skin collagen.
